For many Americans, Jan. 6th should be remembered as "A date in infamy" much like the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Unfortunately today, many Republicans have bought into the Big Lie thinking that the FBI and Antifa are responsible. As one Capitol policeman said today on TV, it's one thing for people to be uninformed but for the over 100 Republican congress people who lived through it to lie to the American people because they don't want to be primaried by Donald Trump, it's a real travesty to truth and to our democracy.
I hope many of you have watched the speech or parts of it that President Biden gave January 5th. He took Donald Trump to task and laid out the truth. But 25% of Americans don't want to accept the truth.
The U.S. Supreme Court said Friday it will take up the Colorado Supreme Court ruling on keeping Trump off the ballot. If you have read the 14th amendment Section 3, it seems pretty clear that Trump "engaged" in an insurrection. But whether our conservative Supreme Court is willing to rule on what the Constitution says and declare Trump ineligible remains to be seen. If not, then we have to defeat him again at the ballot box in November to keep our democracy, freedom, rule of law and the Constitution.
As Democrats, it is imperative that not only do we vote in November but reach out to others to register to vote and tell them the truth of what is happening. We also need all of you to plan to attend the Caucus/Assembly on Mar. 9th at the Huerfano County Community Center at 10 a.m. to get a great start on electing local and state Dems to office. Also, on April 20th will be our annual Mother Jones Fundraising Dinner. Colorado Secretary of State, Jena Griswold will be our guest speaker. Ticket info will be coming out soon.
In Huerfano County, we control what we do locally in getting a Democrat elected to CD3 and getting President Biden reelected while electing Democrats as our county commissioners and district attorney. If all of us reach out and do just a bit more than usual, it can be a great year for Huerfano County and for America.
