Election judges are a critical part of the election process. Because most County Clerks will give priority consideration to election judges that sign up at caucus, it is strongly encouraged to fill these positions.
Election Judges must meet the following qualifications:
Registered electors who reside in the political subdivision and are willing to serve
Be U.S. citizens by the date of the election at which they are scheduled to work
Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of an Election Judge
Attend a mandatory Election Judge class prior to each election at which they work
Never been convicted of election fraud, any other election offense or fraud
Neither a candidate whose name appears on the ballot in the precinct that they are appointed to serve, nor a member of the immediate family, related by blood or marriage to the second degree, of a candidate whose name appears on the ballot.
Get involved and assist voters on Election Day.
Student Election Judge Information
There is a student judge program.
Be at least 16 years old and a Junior or Senior "in good standing" at [a public or private school at the time of the election at which they plan to work
Submit an application
Have the written consent of a parent or legal guardian
Have the approval of their school's principal or administrator
Be a U.S. citizen by the date of the election at which they are scheduled to work
Be willing to serve knowing that Election Day runs from 6:00 .m. to 8:00 p.m.
Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of an Election Judge
Attend a mandatory Election Judge class prior to each election at which they work
Never have been convicted of election fraud, other election offenses or fraud
Not be related to any candidate on the ballot
All applicants must have a Social Security number, which is required on the application.
Judges cannot be paid without a Social Security number.
